Therapy for Creative Teens
Online Expressive Arts & Talk Therapy for Sensitive, Creative Teens
Being a teenager can be intense — especially nowadays. For sensitive and creative teens, it can feel even more so. Thoughts run deep, feelings are big, and the world often moves faster than their nervous systems would like.
I offer online therapy for teens in California that blends expressive arts therapy with thoughtful conversation, creating a space where teens can have fun and explore their interests while processing their feelings and developing an array of coping skills.
My style is warm, nurturing, and gentle. Teens have a lot of say in how sessions go — whether that means talking, creating, or trying something new. The goal is to build emotional awareness, self-trust, and practical coping skills over time, not to push or rush.
Is this the right fit for your teen?
My practice is especially well suited for teens who:
Feel anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally overloaded
Are sensitive, artistic, imaginative, or introspective
Struggle with self-confidence or self-criticism
Feel pressure around school, performance, or expectations
Have difficulty putting emotions into words or communicating their needs directly with others
Feel “different” or misunderstood
Are navigating identity, friendships, or major transitions
A Note About Scope of Care
I work best with teens who are struggling but emotionally stable and able to engage in weekly outpatient therapy.
At this time, my practice is not designed to support teens who are in active crisis or need intensive or emergency-level care (such as ongoing suicidal behavior, active self-harm, active eating disorders, or substance use issues). If that level of support is needed, I’m always happy to help families find appropriate resources and referrals.
Why Expressive Arts Therapy?
Not all feelings come with words — especially during adolescence.
Expressive arts therapy uses simple creative tools like drawing, symbolism, music, metaphor, and writing to help teens explore emotions safely and calmly. Creativity becomes a bridge between what’s happening inside and what can be shared, understood, and worked through.
In sessions, we might:
Use drawing to explore emotions
Create images that represent stress or safety
Write or reflect in simple, low-pressure ways
Bring in projects and hobbies from outside of session to explore their deeper meaning
Practice grounding and coping skills
No artistic ability is required. The focus is expression, not performance; process, not product.
Parent Involvement & Confidentiality
Parents and caregivers play a crucial role in a teen’s support system, and I aim to balance that involvement with a teen’s need for privacy and trust.
Typically:
Parents participate in the initial consultation process.
Ongoing communication is thoughtful and limited to protect the therapy space.
Safety concerns are always shared.
Additional parent check-ins can be scheduled as needed.
I’m happy to discuss this in more detail during a consultation.
